The Operating Principle of PET (DTF) Printing

Launched in 2020, PET heat transfer printing technology (DTF - Direct to Film) quickly revolutionized the fashion and uniform manufacturing industry. No longer limited by fabric types or graphic complexity, PET printing has risen to become the "gold standard" for garment workshops and local brands.

PET heat transfer printing, or DTF, is a technology that utilizes specialized PET film:

• The inkjet printer system sprays a layer of water-based color ink directly onto the surface of the specialized PET film.

• The PET film is then coated with adhesive powder. This heat transfer powder clings tightly to the wet ink before passing through a drying chamber system.

• Pressing temperature: 150 – 160°C.

THE DTF (PET FILM) PRINTING PROCESS

• Step 1: Design the image on a computer using software like Photoshop or Corel, then load the print file into the printer.

• Step 2: The image is printed onto the PET film. The color ink is printed first, followed by a white ink layer on top to act as a solid base for the design.

• Step 3: Once printed, the image is coated with a layer of heat transfer adhesive powder.

• Step 4: The film is dried so the transfer powder melts and adheres to the printed surface, ensuring the adhesive is spread evenly across the entire design.

• Step 5: Press the design onto the target material using a flat heat press machine. This printing method can be applied to cotton, polyester, light-colored or dark-colored fabrics, as well as various other materials.
